COVID-19 has had a profound impact on the world economy, the global governance system, the international political landscape, and the global higher education. However, from a historical, dialectical, and systematic perspective, the interdependence of human survival still exists, the basic development elements of maintaining the global economy and the global higher education will not be swayed by the virus. When MOOC was launched in 2008, it was only twenty-five students attended the course on the campus of the University of Manitoba while 2300 from around the world participated online. Hardly anybody could predicate that over one billion students around the world must study online courses currently after 12 years of the birth of MOOC. With outbreak of COVID-19, technology enhanced learning and digitalization have been rapidly adopted globally by education institutions which play a key role for the continuity of the education and learning. Not only so, more emerging online innovative universities have begun to penetrate the global higher education systems which post challenges in changing the traditional university model of 800 years old. No doubt, this unprecedented impact caused by the pandemic would ultimately lead to a great revolution in the global higher education. However, digital university, mystery, or reality? could the online innovative model substitute the traditional one? Could the vision and mission of the university be delivered without compromising the quality?

Universities and colleges in the global higher education develop the highly skilled working force and contribute to the research and development capacity for innovation and entrepreneurship that determine competitiveness and sustainability in the knowledge-based global economy. In the post COVID-19 era, internalization and global engagement continue to be crucial. Collaboration and competition are intensifying simultaneously under the growing influence of market forces and the emergence of new players. How will global higher education evolve over the next 20 years? How can governments and education institutions take the challenges and make the most of the opportunities in the post COVID-19 era?

The world is now a different place to the one we knew. We need to be more imaginative and creative when socio-economic paradigms break down as they are currently doing. There is an opportunity for innovation and experimentation. Innovation changes the world and innovation is very important part of a larger, evolving, social movement that is creating novel solution to the current dysfunctional paradigms of the global higher education. So, there is opportunity for the global higher education to tackle the digital landscape and identify solutions, new working approaches, innovative services and processes that create positive change in the global higher education with lasting efforts into the future.

You will hear fresh perspectives from our distinguished speakers, education leaders on innovation, entrepreneurship, and leadership with resilience in the global higher education in the post COVID-19 era.

The main goal of this series of innovation forums is to explore the new normal and rethinking of the global innovation trends, opportunities and challenges in the post COVID-19 era, inspire current and strategic thinking, provide a platform for exploring linkages and mechanisms, and explore appropriate and effective modes of maintaining peace, embracing innovation and sustainability, strategic alliances between governments, universities and global firms, international trade, knowledge transfer and knowledge sharing, culture creativity and technology innovation and collaboration globally. Our intent is to provoke creative and innovative ideas, by bringing together various stakeholders, including academics, researchers, university presidents, deans of business schools, corporate leaders, policy makers, venture capitalists, managers, and senior students for exchange of ideas, research findings, current experiences, best practices, and lessons learned. The intellectual lens will rotate around addressing various questions of new normal and rethinking of global trends, opportunities and challenges in the post covid-19 era with a focus on maintaining world peace, dignity and equality in a healthy planet.
